The Costume Institute at the Metropolitan Museum of Art has consistently fabulous exhibits and the newest, Poiret: King of Fashion, is no exception.
Poiret was an influential French designer during the early twentieth century, known best for luxurious oriental and Art Deco gowns though he also created a number of fashion firsts, including the brassiere (thanks, Paul!), culottes (damn you, Paul!) and sheath dresses.
Exhibition dates: May 9 – August 5, 2007

Location: Special exhibition galleries, first floor
Metropolitan Museum of Art, 1000 5th Ave at 82nd St.
