Ok, so this is a blog that talks mainly about style, clothing, what have you, blah, blah. But as a fashion marketer in my 9-5 life, I am endlessly fascinated by ad campaigns and occasionally, I must digress and discuss.
The newest series of ads to get my attention is for Equinox, a high end chain of gyms. Fashion photographer Ellen von Unwerth shot the provacative images, which include the one of nuns sketching a nude man above. While the image is beautiful, I'm not sure that I get the 'connect' to a fitness center. Is the model's body supposed to inspire men to join Equinox? Hmmm...more provocative than pornish, I think.
I guess the message is, "Join our gym and you'll be so hot that even nuns will want you"? lol
As interesting as this ad is and as well-shot as the photo is, I think it's one of those campaigns that end up being counterproductive for the advertiser.
Because it's provocative, people are likely to remember the image.
But, since the message is unclear, it's highly unlikely that people will ever remember what the ad was for in the first place ;)
