Ah, Shecky's Girls Night Out...say what you will but lifestyle media site Shecky's started a revolution about five years ago when they began their shopping parties. Major magazines like Lucky and New York have followed in their footsteps with pay-to-shop events that boast fun fashion and beauty vendors (with great prices to boot), open bar and great gift bags (Lucky's is particularly good on all accounts.)
Unfortunately, over the years , the Shecky's event has gotten a bit lame - the event is packed to the gills (with rude women who push and shove), vendors are hit or miss (many look like they belong at a flea market or constructed pieces in their basements) and the gift bags are steadily decreasing in size and awesomeness. I hit this season's Girls Night Out event tonight (tickets are $30, though in the interest of full disclosure, my entrance was comped) at the Puck Building and wanted to report back on Goodie Bag contents for loyal NYC area readers. Here's a recap, all items are full sized unless noted -
Shecky's Girls Night Out - A Review

- Avene Rinse-Off Gel Cleanser (looking forward to testing this)
- Rusk Being Sexy Hair Spray (meh)

- One free download at http://www.musicpass.com/ (no thanks, my heart belongs to iTunes)
- Coupon for 35% off any package at http://www.lasercosmetica.com/ (tempting but these are $ to start...)
- Two terrible books - His Cold Feet and Girls Are Weirdos but They Smell Pretty! (did the word 'terrible' give away how I feel about these?)
FYI, NYC gals (if I haven't scared you off) Girls Night Out runs through 3/7, you can get tickets here.

I gotta admit, the contents of the bag seem a little blah, with some of your noted exceptions. But I absolutely LOVE your comments about them. Just cracked me up. :)
Have a wonderful week!

Sounds like a fun event to go to! Too bad I don't live in NYC.
By the way, I've been reading your blog forever and I can't believe it hadn't occurred to me to ask you to exchange links with me until now. Can we please exchange links? I've added you on mine at http://www.ma-petite-chou.com :)
Was there last night. Not bad, at least most of the products were useable. Got a different book "The Kabul Beauty School" (excellent read!). My fave items over the past seasons have been the Juice Beauty lip triplets, Jennifer Moore undies, and the Betty hoop earrings. IMHO, the event is worth it if you get two-fer admission tics...double gift bags. But I did think the event was better organized and overall improved this time. Cheers! SusanW
Maybe we were at different events because I found some great stuff ...Eda & Betty is one of my favorite jewelry designers (her designs have been worn by many celebs)and I bought one of her vintage necklaces for SO much cheaper than at Nordstroms. Also did you see Clo Studio? They have such cute lingerie (and higher quality than crappy VS). Anyway, I got some fun makeup in my bag and a razor that has shaving cream built into it (genius!). All in all a good time!
I beg to differ! I go to every single Shecky's event with my girlfriends to shop, have cocktails and enjoy the fun atmosphere. I think the goodie bags are sometimes different from person to person, but the one I got had full size products in it! Not to mention, my favourite NYC boutique (Zachary Smile) had a ton of dresses there at like 50% off!
Not sure if we were at the same event, but if you and I were at the Puck Building this week, then our opinions sure are different!
I attended on Tuesday night. This Event was a vast improvement over the Fall GNO which, I thought, was pretty shabby, not to mention the paucity of the Goody Bag. I sent e-mails to that effect to Shecky's and their response was, more or less, it is what it is. It would seem that some new personnel are now in charge and working very hard to get new vendors and be better organized. The Goody Bags were "good" (nobody ever has a use for everything); the vendors were set-up and ready; and, after an hour, the place was packed. I looked for my favorite vendors first and then browsed. I'm looking forward to my "two-fers" e-mail for the Summer Event. Next time, I'll bring a bigger tote bag!
