Sundays Are For Culture.

Sundays are for culture here in the city. Well, as long as I'm feeling motivated that is. Today, I made the long trek from Astoria to Brooklyn to view the new Murakami exhibit at the Brooklyn Museum. Housed in a gorgeous old Beaux-Arts building, the museum is a must see for art buffs and the exhibit a must for pop culture addicts.

While they don't allow photography within the museum itself, I did snap a few pics of the outdoor installation with my iPhone (above). The Murakami exhibit inside is housed on floors 4 & 5 and includes several large scale works, sculptures and a section of the mass produced goods from Murakami's company, along with a video presentation featuring an anime Kanye West.

There's also an exclusive Louis Vuitton boutique that showcases Murakami's collaboration with the brand (perhaps the greatest marriage of art and commerce ever!)

Murakami runs from April 5–July 13, 2008 at:
Brooklyn Museum
200 Eastern Parkway
Brooklyn, NY 11238-6052
(718) 638-5000
Via subway, take the 2 or 3 to Eastern Parkway/Brooklyn Museum.

I love the designs of Murakami. I can remember when LV came out with Murakami purses, they were so adorable. But so expensive. :)
