Winter weather inspires us to moisturize our bodies to ward off dry skin but two important extremities often get overlooked: Hands and feet need special care during cold months, too.
Skyy Hadley, owner of As “U” Wish Nail Spa, makes sure no finger or toe goes un-moisturized. If you can’t make it to the salon to be pampered due to lack of funds this season, Skyy recommends using a petroleum-based product such as Aquaphor.
“Products that are petroleum based counteract the drying effects on skin during cold temperatures,” says Skyy.
For an at-home version of her special spa treatments, Skyy suggests slathering Aquaphor or a similar product on hands and feet, then covering them with a plastic baggy (use small for hands and large for feet). Soak covered hands and feet in a comfortably moist hot towel for five minutes. The heat will help the moisturizer penetrate the skin. Then, simply remove the baggies, wipe off the excess product, and massage the rest into your hands and feet for soft, smooth, supple skin.
