Adventures in Off-Price Shopping: Marshalls The CUBE

To call me an avid off-price shopper would be an obvious lie. I avoid off-price shopping like I avoid the plague. I don't have the patience or perseverence to dig for treasures. That said, I know some of you DO (have the patience and perseverence, that is!), so I thought I'd share my latest experience with Marshalls new concept, The CUBE.

Marshalls bills The CUBE as "a sweet, brand-spankin’-new boutique built right inside Marshalls. It’s where all those crave-worthy mall store labels are stashed — shoes, accessories, fashion galore — but, oh yeah, for like half the price." Hm, okay, this language doesn't convince me- truthfully, it makes me cringe.  But I'm game. I hit the Harlem Marshalls, a CUBE location, today.

In all fairness, NYC branches of off-price stores like TJ Maxx and Filene's Basement are notoriously bad - the good stuff always seems to go to suburban stores due to some non-compete stuff behind the scenes with brands, which I vaguely remember from FIT.  The Harlem Marshalls was a bit of a mess (and I'm far from sold on the CUBE), but overall, there were some good finds in store.

The CUBE was located in the center of the women's apparel section and in this location it was dominated by urban and Juniors brands like Baby Phat and Beyonce's House of Dereon. The CUBE would be perfect for those in their teens, early 20's and prices were as good as promised - 50% or more off.

This Marshalls also has a Shoe MegaShop, with a large assortment of footwear for men, women and kids. Here I scored a great deal - classic Hunter Festival Wellies in yellow for just $30 - they're still on sale at Shopbop for $72.50 and were originally a staggering $145! I was pretty thrilled to take these home.  I also had a field day in the gourmet food section and home sections of the store - lots of great name brand merch (Lindt, Godiva, Ghirardelli and much more in the food dept. alone) at almost-too-good-to-be-true prices.

To be fair - I saw 90% of these products at TJ Maxx on 6th Ave. I really like that TJ Maxx - it's huge. I don't really think "The Cube" is anything different.

I hear ya! But I didn't take pics of all that much in The CUBE - the brands just didn't resonate with me. The majority of the pictures are from other departments in the store!

I love those spanx reversible tights! They save coveted weekend bag space during winter travels. And that's a good price for those! I wish my Marshalls had a cube full of them! Great report!!

Thanks for the comment, jessphg - I love the Spanx Reversible Tights too - I almost picked up a few more pairs (until I remembered I already have too many pairs of tights, already:)
