Ralph Lauren Unites 100 Bloggers for Breast Cancer Awareness!

As September winds to a close, October - Breast Cancer Awareness Month - approaches. And while I consider myself to be a cause-aware person, as a blogger and a marketer, I often find the wave of PINK merchandise to be an affront to my senses. After all, if I want to donate to a cause, I'll donate directly to a cause.

Ralph Lauren is one of the rare brands that I make an exception for. Dedicated to the fight against breast cancer for over 20 years, the brand's BCA effort - dubbed Pink Pony - is a global, year-round effort and one near and dear to Ralph's heart.

Years ago, Ralph galvanized the fashion industry in taking a stand against cancer as tribute to his friend Nina Hyde, former editor of the Washington Post; he also played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Fashion Targets Breast Cancer initiative – which has raised over $40 million to date.

Continuing that commitment, Ralph Lauren designated his iconic polo player icon to the Pink Pony Campaign, which is the brand's version of the iconic pink ribbon (created by Evelyn Lauder.) The mission of Pink Pony is distinct and unique in that it addresses the needs of the medically underserved, bringing quality cancer care, access to cancer care, and early detection for those who need it most.

While the initiative was established with a focus on breast cancer, it has now expanded to include other cancers. And as someone whose mother passed away from lung cancer just last year, I'm grateful to see other forms of this deadly disease benefit from the Pink Pony campaign. I was honored to join 99 other bloggers in donning a Pink Pony polo to drive awareness this October.

Shop Pink Pony here, or join Polo Ralph Lauren’s worldwide initiative in the fight against cancer by texting PINKPONY to 501501 to automatically donate $10 to the cause.
