Between puberty and menopause, it seems that women are generally left to fend for themselves. But as a woman in her early 30's, I can tell you that this is a mysterious time. And frankly, it has been since about...oh...25. At times, I feel (as Britney Spears may have once sang) that "I'm Not a Girl, Not Yet a Woman."
Okay. Fine. I guess if forced, I will admit to be a woman. But a confused one at times. While friends keep coupling up, getting married, having babies and buying apartments, its still just me, myself and my two cats (oh HAI Simon and Violet.)
Apparently, I'm not alone. Blessedly, other women in the throes of a "thrisis" (that's a third of a life crisis, natch) now have authors Andrea Lavinthal and Jessica Rozler to share their collective wisdom in their latest book, Your So-Called Life: A Guide to Boys, Body Issues, and Other Big-Girl Drama You Thought You Would Have Figured Out by Now.
This hilarious tome aims to be your campadre, through those difficult times, i.e. when one too many friends has happily married off and is furnishing their Brooklyn brownstone, while you sit around wondering if you'll ever again have a date. But I digress.
And since Lavinthal and Rozler don't know it all, Your So-Called Life includes interviews with nearly thirty experts—including doctors, career counselors, and financial planners—who offer advice on every thrisis-worthy topic imaginable, including managing your finances, entertaining at home and how to best tolerate friends who include their significant other in their Facebook profile pic.
Your So-Called Life is legit LOL-worthy, but also chock full of useful, rational tips. If you're in the throes of your own thrisis - holla, my sisters in the 26-34 year old age range - snag a copy of your own for $10.19 at Amazon.com.
