Whether you wear them solely for UV protection, to dress-up an outfit, or to hide the repercussions of Friday night, your shades matter. But if you’re sick and tired of the tried-and-true Wayfarers and aviators, never fear! There are options.
Our eyewear selections are endless thanks to designers like Alexander Wang, Chanel, Karen Walker and Dior who have all lent their creative expertise to sunglasses and developed eyewear collections. This year’s trend: modern meets retro. John Lennon-esque round sunglasses and cat-eye frames combine with futuristic colors and sharp edges. The result: sunglass art. Yum.
But why now, Maggie? Just because the long, sunny days of summer are coming to a close, don’t you dare think this means it’s time to pack up the sunnies. Nope, sunglasses are an integral accessory throughout the year—those baby-blues still need protecting and you better believe they’re still going need a pick me up on Saturday morning. But this fall, I challenge you, readers and sunglass connoisseurs, to break away from the traditional. Bury the aviators for a season and add a little eye candy to your wardrobe.
Inspired by the hippie-chic Olsen sisters? Try a pair of round sunglasses. Today’s round shades are larger than they were “back in the day” and feature wild colors and gradients in the shade of the lenses. Jackie O would be proud.
Or take a hint from Olivia Palermo: channel your inner fashionista and try a pair of cat eye sunglasses. Notice, the old-school cat eye has been modernized by toning down the pointed, outside edge and adding fun colors.
Want to hide from the paparazzi (or pretend like you are, I won’t tell)? Check out Bee from Atlantic-Pacific and her oversized retro sunglasses. The pair’s large size is reminiscent of the 70s while the square, sharp frame makes it edgy.
Tell me I’ve got you convinced! Now, put your heels on, sprint to the store or dial up that ‘puter, and get your paws on a fabulous pair of these modern retro shades ASAP!
