Fashion's Future: The Independent Handbag Designer Awards (Now With Shoes!)

Handbag Designer 101 announced the winners of the Third Annual Independent Handbag Designer Awards on the evening of June 17th at the New York Historical Society and I was lucky enough to attend (special thanks to Tina Aldatz of Foot Petals, a sponsor of the event!)

Designed to give handbag designers an opportunity to break into the notoriously competitive accessory industry, 7 awards were given for Handbag Design Excellence and one award reserved for Shoes. I've included snaps of my favorite winning bags in the gallery below, so be sure to check it out.  For the full list of winners, check out this link.

Celebrated British designer Lulu Guinness received the IHDA ICONOCLAST Award this year for her 20 years in accessories design. I'm a longtime fan or her feminine and witty handbags - as far as I'm concerned this award was well deserved.

Are you a fan of any of the bags from these young designers?

Best Handmade Handbag: Alexis Campagna for Antibellum

Best Handbag in Overall Style and Design: Alice Tapajos for Zibba

Best Green Handbag: Andres Stickney for DRES

A retrospective of Lulu Guinness' signature lip clutch. Guinness was honored with the IHDA ICONOCLAST Award this year for her 20 years in accessories design.

Moi with designer Lulu Guinness! Loved her Gilles Deacon dress!
