Working in marketing makes me uniquely immune to cause marketing, in particular the pink washing of AMERICA that happens each October. Seriously, if you could see my inbox at the moment, you'd cringe.
Of course, Breast Cancer Awareness IS an important cause, no sane person would argue otherwise. That said, I tend to lean in the direction of a more direct approach to charity. Meaning, if I support a cause, I'll donate my DOLLARS or my TIME as opposed to purchasing a product that's tied to philanthropy and hoping for the best.
Of course, there are exceptions to every rule, and here are my very favorites from this year's crop of products benefitting Breast Cancer Awareness:
- Stella & Dot Bryant Park Scarf, $59 (all net proceeds to the Noreen Fraser Foundation)
- Shiseido Lacquer Rouge in Disco, $25 ($5 from every sale to Cosmetic Executive Women’s Cancer and Careers Foundation)
- Diptyque Eau Rose Roll On, $48 (20% of proceeds to The Pink Agenda)
- DG Skincare Extra-Strength Alpha Beta Peel - limited edition, larger pre-soaked pads, $110 (proceeds benefitting the National Breast Cancer Foundation)
- Alex Woo Open Heart Necklace in 14kt Rose Gold, $498 (net proceeds to the Women's Cancer Research Fund)
