Stay Here Now: The Surrey

A longtime downtowner, I often feel that the Upper East Side is antithetical to my being. It's culturally destitute, I often claim - devoid of all things beautiful. A mild exaggeration on any given day, but a complete departure from the truth for those who stay at The Surrey.

A Relais & Chateaux property (among the most prestigious and luxurious hotel collectives in the world), a stay at The Surrey is like escaping to another, terribly chic, world entirely. Home to 31 pieces of modern art, valued at over $30 million (including the stunning "Kate" - yes, that Kate - Chuck Close tapestry seen above), The Surrey's world is one of high design, culture and indulgence. While the hotel's proximity is key - this is New York, after all, location is everything - staying on premise at is just as desirable.

On your itinerary, please place:

  • A visit to the guests-only rooftop bar, where herbs grown on premise are mixed into custom lemonades and a rotating menu of signature cocktails.
  • A treatment at the luxurious Cornelia Spa, in and of itself a New York destination.
  • Cocktails at the discreet Bar Pleiades, which boasts design elements inspired by the House of Chanel (see also the in-room carpets, iterative of the floor treatments in Coco's own apartment) including high-contrast black and white lacquer finishes, French doors and quilted walls.
  • In-room breakfast by Michelin-starred Cafe Boulud (don't aspire to restaurant dining, friends; trust that you won't want to leave the plush DUXIANA bed in each room).

The worst part of your stay at The Surrey will undoubtedly be...leaving. For more information or to book directly, visit The Surrey online.
