Rebecca Minkoff + Agyness Deyn: Two Great Tastes that Taste Great Together

Rebecca Minkoff: Aggy Audition Video from Daniel Saynt on Vimeo.

Among my favorite faces is supermodel Agyness Deyn and, as you already know, one of my favorite designers is Rebecca Minkoff. This spring, they've collaborated to create a short fashion film that showcases Minkoff's lovely spring/summer collection in the guise of an audition. View the vid above, and check out Minkoff's new arrivals - including snazzy studded shades and a dreamy tangerine dress- on site now!

6 Things to Know About Cartier's Magnificent L'Odyssee

Cartier's WOW-inducing short film L'Odyssee made its small screen debut last night with simultaneous airings during Desperate Housewives, The Good Wife and The Celebrity Apprentice. But THIS GIRL was lucky enough to attend a private premiere at the Metropolitan Museum of Art last week, a magical moment that I won't soon forget. Based on the mega buzz that I saw on Twitter last night, I thought I'd take a minute or two to share some fun facts about the film, learned at last week's event:

  • L'Odyssee was produced over the course of two years, with a crew of over 50.
  • The Panther was the obvious choice of heroine (yes, she's a LADY!) being the ultimate symbol of Cartier's expertise since the 1930's. Former creative director Jeanne Touissant was nicknamed La Panthere for her expert eye, sharp allure and consummate excellence - can you imagine? I'd like for my friends to begin work on an equally-as-fabulous nickname as soon as possible, with little to no haste.
  • Just as twins often play a singular baby on film, Cartier's magnificent panther was played by a trio of big cats in L'Odyssee - Cali, Damou and Tiga.
  • Young Chinese designer Yiqung Yin, a graduate of the Ecole Nationale des Arts decoratif in Paris, designed the couture gown seen on supermodel Shalom Harlow in the final scene. Harlow has never before been associated with the Cartier brand.
  • The three High Jewellery creations worn by Harlow total 65+ carats of gems, including a one of a kind Panther bracelet, which has already sold to an American buyer.
  • Directed by Bruno Aveillen, L'Odyssee was filmed in natural locations enhanced by 3D animations.

What are your thoughts on L'Odyssee - piece of art or a clever marketing device? Either way, visit www.odyssee.cartier.fr to learn more.

Watch This: #Ultrasuede: In Search of Halston

Few designers represented the glamour, style, and excess of the 70’s quite like the legendary Roy Halston and in the newly-released documentary, ULTRASUEDE: IN SEARCH OF HALSTON, filmmaker Whitney Sudler-Smith takes fashion lovers on a fabulous fun-and-fact filled journey through the designer’s life and times.

Check out the trailer above, and snag tickets for this week's opening at the IFC Theater in New York City here.

Watch This: Newlyweds

It's not every evening that I get to spend QT with an incredibly talented and yes, devastatingly handsome gent like Ed Burns, but gosh...I wish it were. Last week, I had the great pleasure of joining the actor/director himself, along with newcomer Caitlin Fitzgerald to screen Burns' new indie flick, Newlyweds.

Shot in TriBeCa with just two cameramen and a $9,000 (nope, not missing a zero or three, but thanks for asking) budget, Newlyweds examines the toll past loves and damaged family members can take on a relationship. That said, while the subject matter may sound a little HEAVY, the film itself is a Woody Allen-esque, charming and yes, voyeuristic glimpse into a couple's self-proclaimed "easy" marriage.

Newlyweds will be available nationwide On Demand and via Digital Download beginning December 26, 2011, with a select theatrical release starting in January 2012. Check out the trailer below:

Kiera Knightley Heats Things Up for Coco Mademoiselle

Our pals at CHANEL today debut a new, super sexy short film created for “Coco Mademoiselle,” starring Oscar®-nominated actress Keira Knightley and an anonymous, meow-worthy co-star.

Three years after the first commercial film, Knightley reprises her role as COCO MADEMOISELLE, a modern day Coco Chanel whose mystery, daring and rebelliousness are at the heart of her charm.

A national cable television flight of 30 and 60 second spots will debut tomorrow, March 22, 2011. A print advertisement shot by the man, the legend Mario Testino will debut in April 2011 books.

Watch This: Bill Cunningham New York

There's been a long line of beautiful, fashion-focused films that have been released in recent years, including Tom Ford's A Single Man, Valentino: The Last Emperor, Lagerfeld Confidential and of course, The September Issue. But it's possible that none have captured a subject as fascinating as New York Times photographer and street style legend (seriously, move the fuck over Scott Schuman) Bill Cunningham.

The eye behind the Times' On the Street (view the most recent edition here and video slideshows narrated by Cunningham himself here) and Evening Hours columns, Cunningham documents what stylish New Yorkers are actually, you know, wearing - yes, on the streets - be it highbrow (think couture) or low (fanny packs, anyone?)

What fascinated me the most is that at heart, Cunningham is both a minimalist (his lifestyle is a stark contrast to the glamorous galas that he covers for Evening Hours, for example) and an absolute purist, particularly when it comes to spotting trends. Even when covering the shows, he photographs only what he loves, and what a real woman (a "marvelous, exotic bird of paradise"- kind of woman, naturally), could wear or is wearing. He doesn't believe in fashion as art, but instead as "armor for everyday life."

"See I don’t decide anything. I let the street speak to me. And in order for the street to speak to you, you’ve got to stay out there and see what it is! You don’t just manufacture in your head that skirts at the knee are the thing, and you go out and photograph people with skirts at the knee. You’ve got to stay on the street and let the street tell YOU what it is. There’s no shortcuts, believe me," he says in the film.

For those who love fashion, this doc is a must-see. It's running at select theaters nationwide, including Film Forum in New York City through Tuesday, March 29.  For showtimes and or to snag tickets online, visit the site.

Get the Look: Coco Avant Chanel

Last night, I attended a screening of Coco Avant Chanel, a French film (yes, subtitled!) by director Anne Fontaine and starring actress (and Chanel model) Audrey Tautou as Gabrielle "Coco" Chanel. The flick takes an in depth look at Coco before she became the woman we all remember her as - icon and entrepreneur.

To me, Chanel herself was inspiring thanks to her distaste of convention. She never married, was the lover of a married man and eschewed the traditional trappings of her day - corsets, fluffy dresses, heels and the like. Instead, she favored a simple, sometimes androgynous style and low maintenance grooming.

While I loved seeing her at her most natural, Tautou never shined brighter in Coco Avant Chanel than she did in the scene pictured above, with her lover, "Boy" (Alessandro Nivola). In a strikingly glamorous - yet simple - black sequined dress, a bow headband, bold red lips and perfectly groomed brows, this is a look that's as relevant today as it was in the 1940's.

Coco Avant Chanel opens in theaters on September 25. Check out the trailer here:
