NYFW Beauty Best: TRESemmé for Rebecca Minkoff

The Relentless Purse-Uit of Power

As a New Yorker who’s constantly, blessedly on the go, my long days are powered by just a precious few things, most notably coffee (iced, with real sugar and half & half, please), my Metrocard and my handbag.

Everything I need to go from breakfast meeting to evening cocktails is tucked inside my purse, but at the same time I do my best to carry just the essentials, essentially just what you see below:

  • Rebecca Minkoff Circle Quilt Swing in Cement is small, but roomy
  • Linea Pelle Dylan Zipper Wallet– I’m obsessed with the soft leather, bright purple color and amazing zip detail!
  • Headphones (the Spotify app keeps a spring in my step)
  • Jalda Croc Embossed Business Card Case, with both business and blog cards (you never know who you might meet – #ABM, my friends)
  • Norma Kamali Square Cat Eye Sunglasses (in case)
  • Mophie Juice Pack Reserve Portable iPhone Charger (must, must, must!)
  • Sheets Energy Strips in Cinnamon Rush
  • Band-Aid Brand Blister Block (I do my best to choose comfortable shoes, but you never know.)
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in a pop color like Lovesick (a bright lip color can make a look in an instant, and this formula is foolproof!)
  • iPhone!

I’m curious – what are the essentials in your purse? If you’re down to share, join ELLE & Revlon in The Purse-Uit of Power on Facebook, and you’ll have the chance to win a uniquely curated designer power purse (each is valued at $3,000!) online, or dropped at a very special pop-up event in the real world.

Pay close attention, peeps, because clues to the bag drop location will be revealed exclusively on Revlon's Facebook page and you’ll also be able to play an instant win game daily for products.  Each time you play, you’ll be entered to win the afore-mentioned ELLE-approved designer bag, chock full of goodies that include Revlon products.

Good luck in YOUR ‘Purse-Uit of power’ – may the force be with you, ladies!

While all opinions expressed are my own, this post was produced in collaboration with Revlon, ELLE and Style Coalition.

New York Fashion Week Beauty: TRESemmé for Rebecca Minkoff

Yesterday, TRESemmé Lead Stylist Jeanie Syfu created sophisticated and effortless textured waves for Rebecca Minkoff's Spring 2013 show.

Overall Look: The look was beachy waves with polished ends. Hair had a matte texture and sleek ends to create a style that was casual, yet glamorous to complement the 80’s feel of the collection.

How-To Steps:

  • Start by applying TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Finishing Spray and TRESemmé 24 Hour Body Foaming Mousse throughout the hair and power dry with fingers for texture
  • Smooth out ends with a Mason Pearson brush
  • Take random sections of hair and using a 1” barrel curling iron, create curls through the mid-lengths, making sure to leave the ends out
  • Use the flat iron to straighten ends and give the beachy texture a polished finish
  • Spray lightly with TRESemmé Fresh Start Volumizing Dry Shampoo for a matte look
  • Create a middle part with a comb and finish with a dime size amount of TRESemmé Smooth & Silky Anti-Frizz Secret Crème to fingertips, raking through the hair from roots to ends

Rebecca Minkoff + Agyness Deyn: Two Great Tastes that Taste Great Together

Rebecca Minkoff: Aggy Audition Video from Daniel Saynt on Vimeo.

Among my favorite faces is supermodel Agyness Deyn and, as you already know, one of my favorite designers is Rebecca Minkoff. This spring, they've collaborated to create a short fashion film that showcases Minkoff's lovely spring/summer collection in the guise of an audition. View the vid above, and check out Minkoff's new arrivals - including snazzy studded shades and a dreamy tangerine dress- on site now!

Cheap Thrill: Rebecca Minkoff Delight Bag for mark

Rebecca Minkoff has long been a designer that I admire - not only for her amazing personal style, or the totes gorge bags, accessories, shoes and apparel that she designs, but also because, at her core, she's an entrepreneur.  That was validated for me tonight at a very special event at the Mondrian SoHo to celebrate her new collaboration with mark.

Seen above with former CNBC correspondent and personal finance expert Nicole Lapin, Minkoff answered fashion and business questions from bloggers and mark representatives alike, and ALSO introduced us to the new, mark-exclusive Delight bag. A STEAL at just $60, it looks as luxe (seriously!) as a bag from Minkoff's signature collection, but with a few compromises made in terms of fabrication - meaning, yes, it's pleather, not leather.

I love the Delight for its versatility - try wearing it with the strap tucked in as an oversized clutch, cross-body or on your shoulder - it's generously sized to go from day to night and even better are the super-edgy details, including studding and an oversized buckle.

Snag the Delight bag online at mark or through your local mark representative!

On My Body: Rebecca Minkoff's Becky Silk Jacket

On Oscars night, I was lucky enough to swing by a fabulous US Weekly viewing party, which was graciously sponsored by Piperlime. Praise the heavens that Piperlime saw fit to gift me with a $100 gift card, which burned a hole in my pocket until I spent close to $300 MORE on the snazzy, gorgeous impeccably constructed Becky Silk Jacket seen above.

Designed by Rebecca Minkoff, who's best known for her bags (obvs), this blazer is easily going to become a wardrobe STAPLE (I may not have a crystal ball, but this I know) as it can do the proverbial versatility thing.  I'm currently rocking over a cream silk Club Monaco tee, black eternity scarf by The Limited and distressed Diesel jeans and I look polished enough to parade in front of my CEO, whereas slinking around is generally more my style.

I digress. If you need a snazzy new silk jacket (this one's also available in pink, by the by), pick it up for $348 at Piperlime.

Wired in Style: Tech Accessories of the Moment

At any given point in time, I have multiple accessories on me, and all too many of them are of the tech variety - think camera, Mac Book Air, iPad and iPhone. And while I love an artfully designed piece of technology, it can be a TRIAL to find tech accessories that are worthy of investment. Here, three of my recent essentials:

I first encountered former Teen Vogue editor Sarah Frances Kuhn's collection of chic yet functional leather and chain camera straps (above) when I traveled to Morocco with stylish gal about town/The Byrne Notice editor Fiona Byrne. Fiona's Canon was elevated from mere camera to ACCESSORY (all caps required) with this simple and accessible (prices range from $55 to $100) addition.  Shop the collection at www.sarahfranceskuhn.com

Now, as a longtime iPhone user, I've pretty much acclimated to a life that is PERENNIALLY UNCHARGED. As such, I'm never found without an iPhone charger and have spares in every location imaginable, from my bathroom to my office. But for iPhone users who desire a life of FREEDOM, a life where they never again have to crawl on the floor of a New Jersey diner looking for an outlet (who, me?), allow me to introduce the MOPHIE Juice Pack Reserve. Tiny (it attaches to your keychain!) and with an affordable price tag to match (just $34.95), you'll never be caught without power again.

GLITTER is among my favorite things in the free world, so Rebecca Minkoff's Starlight iPad case ($195) obviously rounds out the hat trick.  This sparkly, yet sturdy case keeps your iPad SAFE, but much more importantly, it also keeps your iPad SHINY. Cheers to that, my friends.

Tell me, what are your must-have tech accessories of the mo'?

Win It! Rebecca Minkoff's Chic Mini MAC

This November, designer and new mom (congrats!) Rebecca Minkoff is celebating the arrival of yet another mini in her life - the new Mini MAC (Morning After Clutch, that is!) 30 lucky Minkettes (those are the Minkoff-obsessed among us, obvs. Get involved, as my friend Amber might say) will win their very own Mini Morning After Clutch, which is, by the by, PERF for date night, brunch with the girls or a day of shopping. I feel permanently attached to mine already. But I digress.

OOTD: For the Love of Animals (and Vodka!)

Oh snap, you guys. My friends at Smirnoff US, knowing how much I LOVE their vodka, all vodka, etc., challenged me to go tête-à-tête in a blogger styling challenge hosted on their Facebook page. And for those who read this site, and actually KNOW me, you know I'm powerless against the power of vodka, so of course, I said yes.

The brand has enlisted 3 designers to create t-shirts that bring to life their vision of the iconic spirits brand, and my fellow bloggerati (including Julia from Fashion Pulse Daily and Alia from Second City Style) and I styled one of my fave tees of the bunch, designed by Rachel Caldwell.

Embrace DEMOCRACY and cast your vote for MOI by Liking the Smirnoff page, and then Liking my pic! If I win (the final tally of Likes happens on Friday), $1,000 goes to my charity of choice: The Humane Society!

Head to toe, here's how I wore it:

  • Ray-Ban Wayfarers
  • Smirnoff Tee, designed by Rachel Caldwell (enter to win one here!)
  • Cuffs: Rebecca Minkoff (others here), Hayden-Harnett (others here)
  • J. Crew Glitter Belt (other J. Crew belts here)
  • HUDSON Jeans cut offs (originally the Collin Signature Skinny)
  • Loeffler Randall Zola Wooden Platform Bootie (alt color here)
  • Balenciaga Giant Day in Electric Turquoise (no longer available, other colors here)

Photo snapped by my very GRACIOUS competitor/neighbor Julia of Fashion Pulse Daily.

Runway Redux: Rebecca Minkoff Fall 2010 Presentation

It's a been a crazy Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week thus far and I'm soooo far behind on posts, i don't even want to talk about it. Even though I mentioned it just now.  But if you want real time scoop on the backstage beauty and runway looks that I'm covering, be sure to follow me on Twitter here: http://twitter.com/eye4style.

One of the first Fall 2010 presentations on my calendar this season was intended to be Rebecca Minkoff. I'm a HUGE  fan of her luxe but wearable bags and was uber excited to see her return to apparel.  Unfortunately, the presentation was moved up by two hours at the last minute, so I wasn't able to attend.  Instead, I snagged this fab video from YouTube -

Introducing OOTD (Outfit of the Day)

This blog is about a lot of things but uber-personal style isn't really one of them.  That said, my friend Sarah Conley has really inspired me as of late, as she regularly integrates Outfit of the Day posts into her amazing blog, Style It Online.

Sarah's fearless when it comes to sharing her own style with the world, so who more apropos to make me a little more comfy with the idea? She was my photographer for today's outfit of the day:

Alternative Apparel Modal Silk Cowl Neck Tunic  (gift from Pure Addiction)

Yummie Tummie Strappy (gift)

Winter Legging ($38, American Apparel)

Forever 21 Zebra Ballet Flat ($22.80)
