If I Were A Boy

A few days ago, I found myself chatting with a friend about men, which led promptly into a conversation about men's style (that's normal, right?) Now, in recent years, menswear has seen a major resurgence, as evidenced by the bounty of amazing men's style blogs in the Internet universe (Street Etiquette, The Midwest Style and Four Pins are just a few of my favorites). I can't claim to be an expert in menswear, of course (I'll save that for the likes of Nick Wooster), but I do boast a healthy interest in the opposite sex as well as some strong opinions on what I'd wear, IF (in the words of Beyonce) I WERE A BOY. Here's what I've got my eye on at the moment:

  • This oversized and minimal Vestal Watch from Watch Co. ($290) boasts boundless amounts of masculinity and chic. Since most men don't wear a lot of jewelry, a watch can and should say everything.
  • This I'm Fine t-shirt from The Fancy ($22) is quirky and fun. I love the idea of tucking it under an unzipped hoodie and layering up with a blazer.
  • What few peeps know about me is that I was once a sneaker collector. I've since grown into heels, but if I were a boy, there'd be nothing to stop me from investing in the Alejandro Ingelmo Fur Josh with beaver trim. Well, nothing except the $795 price tag, of course.
  • Fashion insider-y with a hint of vulgarity? SOLD. I spotted a guy at a client's office wearing this clever Comme des Fuckdown sweatshirt ($59) and fell in love.

Suits Go Bespoke at My.Suit

Every now and then, I think about how I would dress if I were a man. While I adore a guy who can do casual well (they are few and far between), I like to think that I'd be a suit guy.  Ok, a total dandy.  A Chuck Bass if you will.  And of course, a big part of that look would be gorgeous bespoke suits.

For those not familiar, bespoke suits are custom, made to measure and rightfully expensive.  When it comes to suits, you usually get what you pay for and bespoke is the Bentley of the bunch.

Until My.Suit came along.

My. Suit offers made to measure suits, starting at just $499. Located conveniently near Herald Square (1270 Broadway, at 33rd Street, to be exact), My.Suit lets guys choose from literally hundreds of fabrics (in various colors, weights, patterns, etc.), several silhouettes for both pants and jackets, and of course, countless details to create a suit that is positively PERFECT for them. And what's truly INSANE IN THE MEMBRANE is that the turnaround time from your initial appointment to your final fitting is a mere two weeks.

Best of all, the customer service at My.Suit is absolutely top-notch. Depending on your guy's "style comfort level" (i.e. How clear of a personal style does he actually have? Most guys = not much.), the sales staff can provide minimal guidance, serious hand holding or anywhere in between. We worked with Sales Manager Jim Hancock (seen in several pics below) who - aside from wearing the HELL out a suit himself- was able to give great expertise in both fit and style.

Take a gander through the gallery and you'll see my boyfriend's recent My.Suit experience from choosing fabrics (he went with a lightweight charcoal fabric) to the measuring process to choosing every little touch that makes the suit uniquely his (think kissing sleeve buttons that actually function, a pop of maroon lining and some truly eye-catching contrast stitch action.)

If you have any questions, be sure to leave a comment and I'll do my best to answer.

And of course, to make an appointment, call 212.594.0077 or visit www.mysuitny.com.

Scott Weiland Launches Menswear

Fashion news! Singer and natty dresser Scott Weiland is collaborating with designer Christopher Wicks of Rock & Roll Religion on a new contemporary men’s collection, dubbed Weiland for English Laundry.

The collection will debut at industry trade show Magic Las Vegas on February 17.

Weiland for English Laundry is said to derive inspiration from the rock decadence of the 1960’s, with Savile Row circa 1965 influences. Expect eclectic combinations of fabrics, patterns and color in an assortment of wovens, vests, t-shirts, pants, hats, ties and scarves. All fabrics are based on original vintage patterns circa 1965 through 1979 and have been reproduced for modern-day wear. Pants have a tailored narrow fit with flat fronts, and wovens feature bold chalk stripes, Prince of Wales plaids and tonic two-tone solids.

Retail price points for the Weiland for English Laundry collection will range from $40 - $120 and distribution is planned to better department and specialty stores, along with the English Laundry flagship store in Los Angeles.

Mackage Launches Men's Collection

For Fall 2008, my fave outerwear line Mackage has introduced its first men’s collection, which incorporates the sleek fit and intricate detailing that make the women’s collection so covetable. For men with an edgy, urban style, Mackage is a must.  In fact, hottie John Legend is already a fan!

Signature leather detailing including epaulet tabs at the shoulders and belting at the wrists, collar and waist along with utilitarian elements woven throughout the collection include large pockets and warm collars.

Mackage wool coats for men range from $594-$682 while leathers retail for $638-$748. The collection is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and Traffic in Los Angeles.
