Gifts for the Gemini Woman: An Astrological Gift Guide

A Gemini woman is a very special breed indeed, and if you have one in your life, you likely consider yourself very lucky. I myself, happen to be particularly prone to Geminis - several of my very favorite friends fall under the sign of the Twins, so when it came time to compile my Astrological Gift Guide, I felt it necessary to crowdsource a suggestion or two.

For the Gemini woman on your list this holiday, may I present you with the following options:

  • "As a Gemini, I reserve the right to change my mind about what I'm wearing, sometimes multiple times a day. This Mackage Azur Convertible Jacket ($632)offers ladylike allure (a lady on the streets) for day, then rocker headline-making hotness by night (a freak in the sheets.)" - Guest Gemini Correspondent Kristin Booker of Fashion Style Beauty
  • As hinted at above by Ms. Kristin, choice is key to a Gemini -let them never feel too boxed in. Pixi's Early Bird Kit ($34) is the perfect solution - tucked inside this girly and sweet palette is no fewer than 3 cheek colours, 2 bronzers, 1 face glow, 4 eye base shades, and 16 eye shadow colors.
  • Playful Gemini is naturally charming, living for fun and few beauty brands epitomize FUN in the way that LUSH does. The Godmother Soap ($6.40) is whimsical and sweet, scented with the girlish fragrance of Snow Fairy. But to balance the duality of Gemini, pair it up with Dirty, a fresh herbal and spearmint-y scent that rings in at $7.95.
  • "As you KNOW, I'm a GEMini, and it's important for me to be able to communicate often and easily. So high on my list is this Ted Baker tablet case for my iPad, complete with gold glitter bow ($70). If there's one thing I like more than communicating, it's gold glitter. SPESH!" - Guest Gemini Correspondent Amber Katz of Beauty Blogging Junkie
  • Indecisive, much? Gemini women tend to suffer from ADD at times - that's Attention Deficit Disorder. Thankfully, she'll never be bored with e.l.f.'s chic little Nail Polish Cube. At just $10, it includes 10 bottles of high color, high shimmer, high shine nail lacquers - the perfect solution to your Secret Santa needs.

Mackage Mini Launches, and is Reason Enough to Have Children

Canadian brand Mackage is sort of my outerwear kryptonite. I'm obsessed with their slim fitting coats, full of thoughtful, often leather details and fur trim - in fact, I have easily 8 in my closet, ranging from wools to leathers to puffers. And while I've never before thought myself QUITE ready to have children, the Fall '12 launch of Mackage Mini has me reconsidering things.

Mackage Mini is exactly what it sounds like - a children’s collection of fitted, classic outerwear with a distinctly modern edge not often seen in wee sizes; there are pea coat and puffer styles lined in fur in sizes 2-12. Having children may be a lifetime commitment, but these chic coats will make the formative years that much more stylish, ladies.

Mackage Mini styles range in price from $395 - $450 USD; shop the collection at Mackage.com.

OOTD, and a New Jewelry Love

With Mercury FIRMLY in retrograde this week (Gala's got some tips on how to survive here), I've been feeling the desire for CHANGE. And while that applies to the most significant aspects of my life, it starts with the simple things, including my personal style. Spring is just around the corner, and I'm itching to embrace some new silhouettes (a high-low skirt, anyone?), new colors (minty fresh, y'all!) and mayhaps even a new 'do (copper ombre, mayhaps? Thanks to Amber for the suggestion.)

One thing I WON'T be changing - no, ma'am, is my love of aggressive jewelry. As I once told Racked, if it looks like a weapon, I want it on me. Enter Plukka's Bullet Ring, seen in my OO above.

In case you're not familiar, Plukka is an online-exclusive platform that offers fine jewelry at 70-80% off, compared to traditional costs. As someone who's had an education in jewelry, let me assure you that this is wholly REVOLUTIONARY - the mark up on jewelry is generally the highest in the biz, and can skyrocket to 1,000+% over wholesale. But I digress. You can learn more about Plukka here, and don't forget to Like them on Facebook, where you can enter the Plukka Loves contest, for a chance to win daily prizes, and a chance at THIS stunning Ramses I ring (right), comprised of sterling silver, 18k rose gold and a full carat of diamonds.

I WANT, but in the meantime, here's what I wore yesterday:

  • Mackage Ming Leather Jacket (similar here)
  • Citizens of Humanity Faye Trouser Jean (funny, these were literally the 2nd pair of designer denim I ever purchased!)
  • Lucky Brand Sandals (gifted, not yet available)
  • Balenciaga Giant City in Outremer (other colors here)
  • Plukka Black Rhodium Bullet Ring

Mackage Sample Sale Haul

This Thursday eve, I hit up the Mackage sample sale on day 1 (no VIP day this year, so sad!) and WOW. I was blown away by the enormous assortment of wools and leathers, with some furs, shearlings and accessories in the mix. I guess we can thank a super warm winter for this bounty.

Prices were "meh," if we're being honest, generally hovering at around 50% off, but as I was in dire need of a new black wool coat (my oldest Mackage is about 7 years old, and looking a bit worse for wear) and basic black gloves, I picked up the Nola, originally $630, here $360, and the Ayama gloves, originally $135, here $65.

If you're in the market for a coat, be it a trench or a great leather for spring or a new wool or puffer for next fall/winter, the sample sale runs through tomorrow at 7pm - check out all of the pertinent deets here.

This Coat. You Need It.

Make no mistakes about it, I love winter coat season. I just love it when it actually occurs in WINTER, as opposed to, oh say, AUTUMN, as was the case this weekend. That said, SNOWTOBER, or whatever the kids are calling it these days, was a lovely excuse to break out my newest cold weather acquisition, the Mackage Doreen.

Snagged at the New York sample sale this past spring for about $300, the Mackage Doreen is a gorgeously DRAMATIC double breasted long coat with a full pleated skirt detail. And while the skirt makes things lean a little girly and even evening, the high collar and built-in leather corset belt add some undeniable edge, leading a gentleman friend to declare this morning that I looked like I belonged in a the fashion version of The Matrix.

For the record, I'm hard-pressed to think of a greater comp. Shop Mackage outerwear online at www.mackage.com.

Object of My Obsession: Mackage

We all have our brand obsessions, but I, perhaps, have more brand obsessions than others. Among the most dire: Mackage.

This Canadian purveyer of delicious ready-to-wear and coats, GLORIOUS coats, is a significant obsession of mine, resulting in no fewer than six pieces of outerwear by Mackage in my closet. My favorite, however, is potentially (MAYBE) (PROBABLY) the black puffer seen above.

Frankly, this puffer is everything a winter coat should be...it's toasty warm, unspeakably flattering and beyond chic.  I look forward to breaking it out each year.

Here's how I rocked it yesterday, in 26 degree weather. Head to toe (what's visible, anyhoo):

Do you have any brand obsessions? Tell a sister all about it in the comments.

Rain, Rain, Go Away: Mackage Spring 2009 Trenches

A trench coat is a wardrobe essential, at least for this gal. I personally have two - a navy Uniqlo and a traditional khaki Banana Republic that was intended to satiate my urge for a custom Burberry. That desire hasn't quite gone away but I must say that these beautiful Mackage trenches for Spring are enough to distract.  They're the perfect marriage of traditional and edgy, which I just love.  To shop Mackage, visit www.mackage.com.

Mackage Launches Men's Collection

For Fall 2008, my fave outerwear line Mackage has introduced its first men’s collection, which incorporates the sleek fit and intricate detailing that make the women’s collection so covetable. For men with an edgy, urban style, Mackage is a must.  In fact, hottie John Legend is already a fan!

Signature leather detailing including epaulet tabs at the shoulders and belting at the wrists, collar and waist along with utilitarian elements woven throughout the collection include large pockets and warm collars.

Mackage wool coats for men range from $594-$682 while leathers retail for $638-$748. The collection is available at Saks Fifth Avenue and Traffic in Los Angeles.
