Making a House a Home: Medallion Rug Gallery

Rag & Bone Harrow Booties
on a Contemporary Turkoman Area Rug from Medallion Rug Gallery

As many of you likely know by now, I recently moved - if at the beginning of the summer still qualifies as recently? As I was moving from a narrow, tiny and dark one bedroom on the Lower East Side to a spacious, modern and light one bedroom in the Financial District, I saw fit to upgrade my life accordingly (this is a danger of living in New York, of course!) So, months later, I'm still putting the finishing touches on my home, with my most recent additions being a sleek little wood and brass bar cart, and this, this GLORIOUS Turkoman rug from Medallion Rug Gallery, a manufacturer and online destination for fine handmade rugs from all around the world.

While I'm by no means a design expert, I will tell you that in my experience, there are two things that make a home feel, well, homier in an instant: art (preferably art that's personal to you and art you adore) and textiles - think throws, curtains (particularly as the weather chills) and rugs, from bedside to area. Medallion's assortment is ENORMOUS, almost overwhelming, in fact - it surpasses any of the rug stores I'd visited in the city. But by using their filtering options (including shape, size and color), you'll be able to narrow in quickly on a few favorites. Find an area rug to love here!

Shop This: DVF Sample Sale

The bi-annual DVF Sample Sale is the stuff of legend here in New York, friends. In fact, I've been known to block off time in my calendar, meetings be damned, in order to make it to the incredibly well-assorted, well-priced sale on Day 1, Minute 1. BUT this season, for the first time ever, the DVF Sample Sale is going online (and it's only approp, considering the brand's mastery of said internetz). Mark your calendars for June 5, and set a bookmark to http://dvfsamplesale.com. Better yet, sign up to become a DVF Insider on site, and you'll get the chance to shop the online sample sale before anyone else, a full day early on June 4.

Happy Shopping - but whatever you do, don't snag all the size 2s!

Amazing Jewelry: Three Secret Sources

Of my admittedly MANY style obsessions, none have been with me as long as jewelry. I'm not quite a hoarder, friends, but I am most definitely a COLLECTOR and I pride myself on a highly personal collection of pieces - any of which I can, will and do wear daily.

And while I can't always afford to splurge regularly on my favorite designers- oh hai Tom Binns, Pamela Love, Dannijo, Eddie Borgo and more - I have found and subsequently bookmarked a few amazing online resources that specialize in gorgeous, unique and often unexpected pieces. Read on for a few sites you may want to add to your list of Must-Shops...

Gold Plated Drusy Agate Earrings

Created in association with National Geographic, Novica's mission is to give artists and artisans around the world a global platform to express their creativity. I love mining the site for silver, tribally pieces from India, Bali and Thailand. Novica's pieces are packaged beautifully, each shipment feels like a gift.

Anabel Campbell Navajo Stacking Bangles

Boticca is a curated online marketplace for unique jewelry and accessories from a myriad of independent designers from all over the world. Currently, the site boasts product from 250+ designers from over 40 countries. While it's less curated than LOOKK (there's a lot more product to wade through), the site's style POV is clear. For me, it's a lot like shopping Barney's or Shopbop, I know I'll be finding countless pieces that I love, so I focus on editing my shopping cart before hitting Purchase!

MFP Stud Necklace

LOOKK bills itself as an "online destination for contemporary fashion worldwide." Shop unique edits and private sales, and follow your favorite emerging designers on site for access to special offers and promotions. While the assortment is always evolving on LOOKK, I often find something to love. The MFP collection on site now is easily one of my faves.

You're Invited: RSVP in Style

I have a few friends who are getting married in the near future, and I never cease to be WOWED by the countless decisions they're forced to make through the planning process. Forget the magic of a wedding - the venue, your dress and of course, your ring - there are countless other decisions to make and all feel equally as important when you're in the throes of planning - think florals, catering, and of course, invitations!

Invitations are, in many, cases "the first impression" you'll make on guests - so, make sure that what you choose accurately reflects your style as a couple and what the guest can expect from the wedding. Here are a few more tips:

  • Send invitations a minimum of 6-8 weeks prior to the wedding to ensure that guests have time to plan accordingly. If you're planning a destination wedding, ensure that you pad that timeframe!
  • Don't forget that couples or children can all go on the same invitation. As a general rule, you'll want to order half the number of invitations as the people you've invited, then twenty or thirty extras.
  • Don't forget to kill multiple birds with one stone - order Thank You and Reply cards, as well as envelopes at the same time.

If you're engaged, shop stylish wedding invites online.
